The film that wowed viewers with its controversial take about the Vietnam war , which was relatively unfamiliar to American mental spheres, proved to be undoubtedly a commercial success. In spite of political opinions the film was a worldwide smash, as was a sequel that came along by Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) and attracted even more hate from various quarters because of the storyline of American MIAs believed to be held in Vietnam. Some say that bad publicity can't be achieved. "John Rambo"'s sequel generated a substantial amount of money for Stallone which made him one the most popular male actors of the 1980s. Stallone, riding a wave in his popularity was able to call upon Rocky Balboa, his sparring companion, to return to the arena to defend American proud against The Soviet threat. This was the story of a Russian boxer who was named Ivan Drago played by Curt Dolph Lundgren.
